Pulsation Dampener

The pulsation dampener is an accumulator with a lightweight pre-charge function that reduces vibration, pipe vibration, water hammer and pressure changes while absorbing system shock. By reducing the number of internal components such as regulators, solenoids and sensors, the pump will reduce wear and extend its life. From completely closed to completely reconfigurable. The bladder is pre-filled with nitrogen to remove moisture and extend the life of the vibration damper.

FAQ

Frequently asked question

A Pulsation Dampener, also known as a pulsation dampener or accumulator, is a device used to reduce pulsation and smooth out pressure fluctuations in fluid handling systems, particularly in reciprocating pumps.

Pulsation Dampeners absorb and store energy from pressure surges or pulsations caused by reciprocating pumps. They utilize an internal bladder or diaphragm that compresses and expands to stabilize flow, reducing vibration and noise.

Components typically include:
o Housing or body
o Bladder or diaphragm (flexible element)
o Inlet and outlet connections
o Gas or nitrogen charge (in some models)
o Pressure relief valve (optional)
o Mounting brackets or bases

Benefits may include:
o Smoother flow and reduced pressure fluctuations
o Extended pump and system component lifespan
o Noise reduction during operation
o Prevention of pipeline damage and leaks
o Improved safety and efficiency in fluid handling processes

They are essential in industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, water treatment, and food processing where reciprocating pumps are used to handle fluids and where maintaining consistent pressure and flow is critical.

Selection factors include:
o Pump flow rate and pressure ratings
o Type of fluid being handled (viscosity, temperature, chemical compatibility)
o Required dampening capacity (volume and frequency of pulsations)
o Space constraints and installation considerations
o Compliance with industry standards and safety requirements

Maintenance tasks typically involve:
o Regular inspection of bladder or diaphragm condition
o Checking and adjusting gas or nitrogen charge (if applicable)
o Cleaning and lubricating connections and valves
o Monitoring pressure relief valve functionality (if equipped)
o Following manufacturer-recommended service intervals

Yes, Pulsation Dampeners are designed to be easily integrated into new or existing pump systems, enhancing performance and reducing wear on system components.

Common issues may include bladder or diaphragm leaks, improper gas charge, or inadequate dampening. These can be resolved through routine inspection, replacement of worn parts, and adjustment of operating parameters.

They contribute by ensuring stable flow rates, reducing energy consumption, minimizing maintenance downtime, and improving overall system reliability and safety.

These devices are available from pump manufacturers, specialized suppliers, and industrial equipment distributors offering a range of sizes and configurations to meet various fluid handling requirements.
